In Travis County, Judges are not available 24 hours a day to set bail, so if you have a friend or loved one arrested for DWI early in the morning and after a time a judge is available to set bail, there is only one way to have them released so they do not have to spend the entire night in the county jail. This process is unique to Travis County and is known as a "Hobby Release", named after Texas' former Lt. Governor William Hobby.
A Hobby Release must be done through an attorney. If the arrested person qualifies for a Hobby Release, your friend or loved one can be released to the custody of an attorney provided they agree to return the following day to complete the required paperwork.
To complete a Hobby Release for your friend or loved one, one of our Travis County jail release attorneys will meet you at the jail and make arrangements with the Sheriff's Office to release your friend or family member to you. After your friend or loved one is released, he is required to go return to the courthouse before noon the next day. Your attorney will then meet with the judge and have a bond set. The process the following day should take less than an hour.
If you have a friend or a loved one who has been arrested in Travis County, one of our Travis County jail release attorneys are available 24 hours a day.
